[RC] triathlons - Steve Shaw

Dawn Hartsock put on a triathlon this year at Ft. Ord in conjunction with a ride and tie. I am still hearing people talk about it
I too did some of the Almaden Triathlons, driving up from LA. One year I even tried it as an Ironperson. Boy was I put in my place as my old ten speed chachinged, chachinged down the road as I was passed unmercifully by women flying by on bikes that sounded like Swiss watches.
The team aspect of those events really bonded a lot of us and is not dissimilar to what happens in ride and tie. One of the attributes of these events was that the runner, (or biker depending upon the way it was set up) could not leave until the horse pulsed down at the end!
Also, the Zontelli's used to put on a similar horse biathlon is S. Calif. years ago that was almost as much fun! The Ride and Tie Championship has put on a Biathlon the day after the big event these last three years. We have always had 10 to 15 teams.
Ride managers should take note of this thread.
With only a little more work, especially if mountain bikes are used (thus no road issues and the same trails as parts of the endurance rides) you can easily add about another $1,000 or more to your event.........
