[RC] [Guest] Rump Rugs - Ridecamp Moderator

Karen Nelson knelson@xxxxxxxxxx
I had a friend make me a rump rug, using a commercial one for inspiration. I wanted more weight in general, more weight on the lower edges so it didn't fly in the breeze so easily, and I wanted natural fabrics. She used Polar Fleece for the top, and she bought a 100% wool blanket at the Army/Navy Surplus store in town for the side next to the horse. Brand new, wool, and dense and warm. She has it in her possession right now to make me another one like it, so I cannot refer to it right now to detail the ties, but I know she used a heavy duty binding and I use non-leather boot laces for ties for lots of things, including my water bottle holders. Easy to replace, cheap, and tough. It rolls up and ties to itself/saddle when not in use, and carrying just in case I need.
Anyway, this rump rug works VERY WELL, and I like how it stays in place and absorbs if necessary. Didn't take my young mare any time at all to get used to it.
