[RC] [Guest] LD Completions & BC in the NE & MW.... - Ridecamp Moderator

JON!!! :-0 !

With one exception of an LD ride I finished in 1988 which we won't go into...EVERY ride I have been to and/or managed (NE, MW, SE)has had the same completition criteria for both 25's and 50's, which included a complete vet check. They have always been done quickly, as in a PR area but all horses are checked for "fit to continue" and all that it implies. I have piles of unclaimed rider cards from past rides to show the data written on the cards.

Now that being said.... we (Ohio)haven't always given out BC for the LD, but we do give out the same completion award for all distances. We give out Top 10 for the 50's & 100's and Top 5 for the LD's. Not always the same award as the 50 mile Top 10 but their entry fee is signigicantly less than the 50 mile riders. This is consistent with the 100 mile top 10 being nicer than the 50 mile top 10.

Some of this stems from AERC floundering about in the early to mid 90's as to how to finish/place LD riders. When I started LD's were placed as they crossed the finish line just as the 50 & 100 mile riders. I believe it was around 1993ish (????) that the rule changed to placement by pulse. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the AERC objective at that time was to completly do away with placements and discourage the "racing" of our younger horses. Since then the LD population has grown and would apear is evolving yet again.

What I have been doing for the last few years is basing the LD best condition award on the vet portion only of the AERC BC cards and allowing the top five finishers to stand. The LD's do a 10 minute post finish CRI and then return in one hour for the full veterinary evaluation. We don't consider time or weight for the award.

Jon, Jon, Jon....I think you have your endurance and CTR mixed up.
