My guess is that this doesn't hold for any but the NC. In the NC if a rider wants to win he only has to win in his weight division so there is no reason for a HW or MW to go chasing a tiny hiny down the trail. It is a different strategy.

For the NC 50 & 100, the MW group has the highest completion rate (by weight
group).  The HW group fared quite well, also.  The FW & LW's have the most
pulls.  For the 100, the FW groups had the highest incidence of lameness and
the lowest completion rate.

It seems like the lighter riders would have the lowest # of pulls.  Kind of
interesting trends...
