Re: [RC] Rider Weight: How much is too much in the beginning? - suendavid

It would seem to me to just play it by ear, and let her know if it's too much
for her. Get on, let her walk around for a few minutes and get off again.
Add another minute or two every time or two you get on. Just don't do
anything that would increase the stress beyond just carrying the weight---no
trotting, keep it on the level and so forth.

There have been horses that have carried just a few pounds less and finished
Tevis with no ill effects (even placing top ten), so obviously, the key point
is to start slow and don't push progress to the point of causing injury.
Keep an eye out for back soreness, filling in the legs, etc and I think
you'll be fine.:-))
