Re: [RC] Timex GPS - Truman Prevatt

The accuracy depends on a lot of factor - but the most important is how many spacecraft there are receiving. This gets to two factors visibility and sensitivity of the receivers. I suspect that there is some trade off in this unit between size and sensitivity to keep it small. I cannot be using a optimal antenna. The other issues related to accuracy is the sample rate into the processor. I would also suspect there are some trade offs here for size.

My guess it is not as sensitive as the Garmin hand held units and the update rate into the processor is less. They are probably okay for hacking on the trail but I sure hate to ride on an endurance ride that used one of these to measure the trail - it would probably be at least 10% miles too long.

With all the discussion that's going on about these - does anyone have a feel for how accurate they really are?

The discussion of larger GPS units with real antennas shows that there can be significant inaccuracy even with those.

Has anyone tried it in a car to see if it matches the speedometer for example?
