[RC] Decline in 100s - Body Soreness - Red LLC

This may be of help to someone who is doing 50s and
really doesn't want to leap to 100s because of their
own body soreness ...

My one-and-only-100-attempt was Washoe a few years
back. We pulled at 80 miles because the horse wasn't
feeling right (turns out he was inappropriate for
100s, so I'm bringing along my next wunderkind), but I
was totally amazed at my complete lack of body
soreness ... and this is coming from a person who
would be chewing Advil like candy for a 50.

The ones who say its a mental challenge are completely
correct. I would be so sore after a 50 because my
mind would quit - I learned that on that Washoe ride.
I came in 50 miles completely fresh and eager to go
because I was looking at it as vet check to vet check,
with occasional stops in camp for some company.

I had a friend who did the 25 that year on her horse;
the next day she was in misery due to soreness. I
wasn't sore a bit - highly unusual. I later
attributed it to my mind was thinking "just 15 more
miles back to camp!" instead of "oh god just let me
get through these last few miles."

Quite the learning experience.

And I'll be back for sure. Just have to finish my
homework.

Jen & the Moose
(and Zef the wunderkind)
