[RC] beet pulp pellets - lisa oberteuffer

hello all: a beet pulp question (sorry)

when I asked my local feed store for beet pulp, they produced a sack of
pellets. I was expected dried shreds of red stuff. these are made of
beet pulp and "10 or 20% molasses"--no one seems quite sure.

I tried dutifully to soak them this am before feeding, but nothing
happened. they didn't soften significantly, nor expand at all. oh well.
so I fed them anyway (only about a ounce per horse) and they were a big
hit (the molasses, no doubt!)

so--do I need to soak longer? overnight? or is there no need to soak
this variety? and should I look for unmolassesed beet pulp elsewhere?

help!
(thanks!)
lisa
