[RC] [Guest] 100 Milers - Ridecamp Guest

John Bass jbass@xxxxxxxxxxxx

100 milers are fun and if I can do one anyone can. During the 2001 ride
season I asked Marcia Cunningham to spoon feed me thru the Californio's 100.
She is a heck of a horsewoman and a real
sweetheart of a lady. I would suggest for the first timer they find a lady
like Marcia.
I was saddling my horse in the morning and thought, "Well I think I'll do
four LD's today." That took care of the mental part.
Six weeks later in July I traveled to Greybull Wyoming, my hometown, to ride
in the Big Horn 100, I can't remember having so much fun riding through the
country I explored as a kid.
Then in August I went to Tevis, I failed to complete but really had a good
time. My horse was great but I was totally unprepared,
that won't happen again. It was a learning experience and I did get to see
56 miles of great country so it wasn't a total loss.
People who don't try 100 milers are missing out.
