Re: [RC] Decline of entries in 100 milers - Maureen A. Fager

Susan Young Casey said "There was a time when more people wanted to ride
longer distances; now, our attitude is "that's too hard".

That is what I hear expressed about 100 miles in my area and we have 3 great rides (VC 100, Washoe 100 and Tevis,) and this year four (Red Rock 100)plus the NC 100.

I did my first 100 last fall (VC 100) and am suprised at how many folks ask me if I would do another one! The answer is YES! and since my mare will be doing her first endurance season year this year and won't be doing any 100's for a while, I'm trying to finagle a horse for the Red Rock 100. Got a good prospect too..

At any rate, the "it's to hard" sentiment goes along with the "scared to try one" sentiment. When I became interested in endurance riding, it was the challenge that interested me then, interests me now, and the ultimate challenge in endurnace for me is 100 miles.

Glad the folks who put on the Red Rocks ride have decided to put on a 100 mile as I rode the 50 mi two years ago and the area is terrifc. Hope to see lots of support for the 100 mi distance at this ride.

Happy Trails,
Maureen
