[RC] New to sport - Ramspott.Kathy

I have the same questions about a TWH I am just starting in Endurance. She is
a real goer, 14 years old. After reading ridecamp for a week I'm getting real
nervous about getting into this sport. I believe everyone tries their very
best to do what is best for their horse partner and that when they get to a
certain level they 'know' their horse and yet disasters still happen. Very
scary to someone just starting.
If anyone out there has brought a TWH through endurance and has advice I'd love
to hear it. I've tried reading as many as the archives as I can but don't see
much about TWH in terms of training differently then an arab. LSD probably
isn't an option. She is a jigger when held back, loves to just do the fastest
walk imagineable and is very smooth and calm once in it. I'm assuming just do
shorter distances and gradually increase distance? She sweats BIG time, much
more then my arab so I assume I need to do different things with diet and
e'lytes? They both get fed strategy and free choice good quality hay and are
in the pasture 24/7.

Does anyone 'publish' their training logs? I read everything I can on what
training is 'supposed' to be like but would be pretty helpful to see what folks
actually DO.

What are some of the things to keep in mind if riding
a QH type of horse. I know that if they have a lot of
muscling then they will need more aggressive cooling
on hot days because they retain more heat...but would
such a horse require more e-lytes as well? And what
are ways to avoid tying up, apart from making sure
you've done your LSD training and are not overriding?

< In the beginning of my "endurance career" I rode a
<half arab/qh who was
<"heavy to the QH" and I learned from her a few very
<important things
<about metabolics and horses...she was my first and
only (knock on wood)metabolic pull.
