Re: [RC] [RC] Rider Option - Barbara McCrary

Bravo, Heidi!!! Unfortunately, others often try to look superior by
placing, or trying to place, a label on a rider whose horse has been pulled.
I was the board member who made the motion to use the RO pull code, with
either M or L attached (for the purpose of vet evaluation and education).
While my reasoning was that RO made the pull look less damaging to the
rider's reputation, and give the rider a positive image for his/her wisdom,
some others will still try to make any pull look like the "rider overrode
his/her horse". There isn't enough room for all the possible codes that
could be created to cover all circumstances. Maybe we should have a code YJ
for Yellowjackets, TOR for tripped over rock, etc. etc. It could almost be
funny, but the goal here is LEARNING, not crucifying riders. I think SF
(surface factors) is valid, and a RO without the L or M is intended to mean,
"the rider was exhausted, ill, injured, or just having a bad hair day".

Hmmmmm....but there
is a stigma, isn't there?

Only if you let there be one. The real stigma comes when individual
riders
earn a reputation for repeated irresponsibility--not from what the pull
code
says. And rightfully so.
