One of the best overall and most inspirational performances I've ever watched was Kathy Arnold last fall on FH Jasur as she went 5 days at speed through the Owyhee desert. She doesn't use electrolytes I think. It was an exceptionally fast performance, though normal for Kathy and Jasur.

I, too, don't think electrolytes are a necessary part of the optimal solution. I've even heard (though unconfirmed) that the French Endurance Squad doesn't use electrolytes during competition.


(p.s. I think Kathy's times were the ones which placed Oreana Canyonlands on the fastest 50s list that truman put out.)
