Several years ago, my Arabian developed a "medium-sized" (not deep) quarter crack and our vet recommended that we use 'Mustad Quarter Crack Patch'which was a hard plastic strip which you glue horizontally over the crack. Prior to patching we rasped a horizontal stop above, in the middle and below the crack. Both of these things seemed to help, and our shoer did float that foot. I would have your shoer and vet evaluate the crack before you committ to a particular course of treatment to prevent the thing from worsening.
