[RC] Liz--Can't ride anymore?? - Adele H

Hi Liz,

Congratulations!!

You are going to have to make your own decision unless you are in an "at risk" pregnancy, in which case the doctor will tell you, so you do need to ask about activity..........
My doctors wouldn't bless my riding (actually NO ONE would say it is ok) but they DID say "continue to do what you are doing; don't start anything new"........Well, I was doing CTR and Hunter pacing at the time.........I was also working as middle management, dressed and wearing 3" heels everyday.......and gardening and on and on.......

So, I did continue to ride but in the back of my head (until "back of my head" became..."in the front of my saddle" LOL), I had that cautious feeling that I needed to be careful......So, I never did compete much then but did do our "training" rides..nothing real crazy, no Yahooing down the trails......I actually rode until I couldn't lift my left leg up to get into the saddle....about 8 months......I was using a western saddle then too (on purpose) and at about 8 months I would occasionally bump the horn so it was time to quit........but Baby came out posting!!........

You ALWAYS have the risk of falling so please take care (IF and ONLY IF your doctor says "continue what you were doing!!)......No crazy horses or anything........and OF COURSE, you will be safer if you DON'T ride........You always would be!!

Subject: [RC] Can't ride anymore??

I found out this week that I'm expecting (YAY!!) and I'm about 7 weeks along. My doc's appointment this morning was cut short when they had to leave for a delivery and I didn't get a chance to ask the doctor about whether or not I can continue to ride. I've been told by nearly everyone (non-horse people) that I absolutely cannot ride for the duration of my pregnancy for risk of falling and causing a miscarriage. Is that true???  o.O   I was planning on riding until I physically couldn't manage it any longer? Is this a no-no??

Regards,
Liz
