[RC] Which brake controller? - Karen

And how do you KNOW that your
trailer brakes are pulling, er, slowing, their share
of the load?

When I pull out I get the trailer moving down the street, let off the gas and then hold down the button the brake controller -- if everything is hooked up right and working that will bring the entire rig to a stop. Then I know the trailer brakes are working. I'm not sure what brand of controller we have now, but it's one of the new ones that adjusts itself. Works great so far. You can also listen to the brakes engage on the trailer if you have somebody step on the pedal inside the truck, though I do like to press on the controller so I can get a feel for how the brakes react when I am hauling loaded up. my old controller took some adjusting between having a full load versus empty trailer. The new one makes it really smooth empty or full, but I still check it each time to make sure the trailer brakes are working and will bring us to a stop.

Happy Trails,
