Re: [RC] helmet question - Karen Sullivan

Put a bike and horse helmet side by side and take a look. The horse helmet
covers a great
deal more of the back of the head, and is designed to protect the head
falling from a greater
height than a bike.

I had always heard a bike helmet is not suitable for horseback riding....as
long as you have
a riding helmet that is ASTM certified.

The only helmet that was certified for both was the Range Rider, and they
just yanked the
ASTM certification from that one.

Subject: [RC] helmet question

for those who wear helmets --or know about them -- any opinion on
whether a "horse" helmet is better than a "bike" helmet?

I ask because I just read something somewhere (sorry, can't remember)
which said, in relation to "horse" helmets, "this may not be the best
helmet for the job" --which I found rather disturbing!

since those guys on bikes regularly crash at 30+ mph on pavement (joseba
beloki, anyone?), maybe I should be wearing my bike helmet & giving up
my english style headgear ... plus the bike helmet has more vents ...

anyway, interested in opinions, facts, thoughts, whatever.
