[RC] [Guest] Ground Control vs. Equiflex - Ridecamp Moderator

Sheila Larsen Sheila_Larsen@xxxxxxx
I have tried both and I prefer the Ground Control shoe. I think they wear better and give good traction. I have my farrier secure the nails with washers (I think Maggie suggested that) and they have not shifted at all. I have not had rocks get stuck underneath the shoe, although if stalled for a period of time without feet cleaning I have gotten crud/shavings between the shoe and the hoof, but have not had the problem with them out in pasture. Also just flipped back the shoe and pick the crud out. My vet, an endurance rider, looked at them and liked them. I think you need to check clinches on either of them but the washers took care of that problem for me. Neither of them will work well if your horse does not land flat (or heel first) One of my horses tends to land on the outside front quarter and the Equiflex wore out in less than 3 weeks. Her feet are getting better balance and I hope to try the GC on her this winter. My gelding has the GC. That is my $.02 worth. Give 'em a try and let us know.
