Re: [RC] [Guest] Vitamin E/Selenium Supplements - Susan Garlinghouse, DVMBiltmore, so that may be the acid test. In any event, is .5 mg even worth feeding? Should I feed it twice a day instead? Thanks. Since she has a history of muscle problems, I probably would, but how much Se she's getting in her total ration depends on where your hay is coming from---Se content in the SE can range from nonexistent to adequate. So in your case, I probably would advise getting her serum Se checked. You might also want to review your electrolyting protocol with some of the SE vets and experienced riders. That can be a big factor in tying up as well---in the SE, probably more so than just selenium alone.
