[RC] [Guest] coughing horses - Ridecamp Moderator

Shanna sheacat@xxxxxxxxx
I have a question about my horse. Just recently, he has started to cough. Its not the normal dry cough so many of them get from the dust and hay, it sounds kinda congested. He isnt running a fever, if anything his temp has been low (99.7- 100.3).

He doesnt seem listless either. He is dehydrated however (dark urine and when I pinched the skin on his neck it took several seconds to go back). I put him in a stall this afternoon with some straw instead of sawdust, and gave him several buckets of water with electrolytes in it. I also gave him some kind of horsey cough syrup, I believe it was called cough stop. The cough isnt so bad when he is at rest, but yesterday when I went out for a ride, he was really sounding bad. Does this sound like an allergy? Thanks for being my captive audience. :)
