Re: [RC] [RC-Digest] Vol: 03.0613 - Jim Holland

The ride manager would be presuming way too much, like they can play
God, and know more than any rider there what is best for the horse.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I disagree...I am only saying what the rules are if you attend my
party....You wouldn't come...what's the problem? A big part of
this sport to me is the comraderie around the "campfire" (real or
imaginary) Can;t get that if I'm on the road before and after.

Hmmmm...IMHO, this is a ridiculous idea....and I simply would not attend
ANY ride with such a criteria. There are MANY things that can be done to
advance the cause of Horse Welfare...this ain't one of them! Too many
variables. Susan, nothing personal, but you're smokin' something! JMO.

Case in point. GERA this past weekend. I live a little over an hour
from Dawson Forest. My ride buddy Flinn Anderson lives 10 minutes away.
Flinn finished, I pulled my little guy Magic with 11 miles to go because
he was hot, tired, his back was a little sore, and he had done enough
for only his third ride. It was 90+ degrees, no breeze, humid, overcast,
and not getting any better. When the ride was over, we checked out the
pictures, electrolyted, washed and brushed our guys, had a cold beer,
wandered around camp and said our "good byes", and took them
HOME...where they could have cool trees, green grass, fresh water, and
smooze with their buddies. They were MUCH happier. We stayed long enough
to be sure they were OK...eating, drinking, and relaxed.

You can't dictate when a rider can leave.....at least not THIS rider!
Geeze! Camraderie? You're gonna ENFORCE camarderie? Gimme a break! The
rider should have the choice of doing what's best for HIS/HER horse on
THAT day under THOSE circumstances.

Jim, Sun of Dimanche+, and Mahada Magic
