[RC] RE COPD - Roger Rittenhouse

Lynne First sorry to hear this. BUT all is not lost...
Now how to fix it and live with it AND most important how to compete with
it.

Most of the time it is caused by the environment.- allergies.

Carols horse came here to a new location from GA flat land to TN MTN
forest.

After about a year - he started to show the problems.
We did not go the steroids route, but went to UT for a live scoping and
internal review.

We left him there for a PROPER allergy test. He was kept in a clean room
stall for 24 hr. With water and dust free grass hay.

A specialist performed the test with 3 rows of 12 plus SQ skin injections
of 'stuff' in the neck.
The things that he was allergic to showed up as bumps or small 'bee
stings'. After 24 more hours the injection sites are 'read'
A list is made of all the positive reactor agents.

They makeup an allergy solution based on these agents.
The process consisted of 3 vials we gave small dosages of a weak solution
then over 3 months worked up to the final recipe.
This is sort of like the concept of homeopathic .. small dosage of all the
agents that trigger the allergy induced COPD.
He has been COPD clear for 3 years. He gets one 1 ML SQ injection per
month.
Cost $140 for a 3 month supply.
He is ridden as normal and has done many rides since diagnosed.

I suspect he will have to be on the shots for ever, at least if he lives
here.

He has been re-scoped and all is well.

He is fed the standard fed and hay- nothing special other then I try to
give him additives that increase the immune system.
COPD is not the end of an endurance horses career.
