RE: [RC] Education - Doing Something About It - Val Nicoson

Am a new rider as well and having followed the thread
regarding this topic, it seems "mandating" something
like this doesn't seem possible. Was thinking about
something along the lines of "peer" pressure with the
following ideas in mind--
How about allowing newbies or other riders who want
this option to self identify? Have a red marker or
yellow highlighter at the sign-in table and then
riders who wish to do so highlight/mark the tops of
their rider cards? This would provide the VC folks a
way to identify these people and ensure that all is OK
with that mount and/or to provide advice such as
"horse doing OK, slow down" or whatever.
Additionally, perhaps a large sticker (such as those
used at conventions that state "hello, my name is...")
or a light-weight vest to wear in camp and/or during
the ride. This would help other newbies or concerned
riders to identify one another as a group. (Thus the
peer pressure). BUT only provide a sticker/vest to
those who show they have marked their rider cards.
The sticker option should be relatively inexpensive
without need to worry about return of the item as in a
vest too.
As more newbies and others decide to self-identify,
perhaps more will in the future...thus the peer
pressure and of course aiding in overall rider
education. How long a newbie decides to self-identify
would be their option with no mandated time
requirement or of being ostracized.
