Re: [RC] Western Raised horses out East - Truman Prevatt

I know of two that were brought from the west (one from MT, the other from AZ) to FL. The biggest problem was skin problems. One would have yearly bouts with rain rot, scratches, etc. and he seemed to have far more problems than the horses that were raised with the humidity and fungus we have back here. He really didn't out grow it.

The other also had skin problems but it seemed to be more related to reactions to the insects we have which would cause him to break out. He's only been hear a year now so he may out grow it.

So if anything I'd be concerned and keep an eye on skin problems.

I think someone asked this before, but now its my question.

It does appear I may become the owner of a horse from MT.

I want to hear from riders and of course vets. who have experience with
moving a horse form the great west and competing here in the east.
I have 'heard' there may be problems - with adaptation.
The weather and humidity should be just time,
what about the nature things - hay weeds air , bugs all the new stuff that
he would be exposed to.
He was born and spend his whole life in MT mountains. He is 9.

What if anything could I expect to a be a problem or issue.
