Re: [RC] itchy skin - csimmons88

I just dug a weird something out of a 4 inch swelling on my horses belly.  Faint memory recalls hebornema? or something to that effect.  It was capsulized, irregular, rough & left a hole where it had been.  Am I close or...?

Thanks!  Cindy

Sometimes these horses get a condition called midline dermatitis.  While steriods provide comfort, you must worm the horse with ivermectrin to cure the condition.  We, b/c of all the wet weather, are seeing a preponderance of rainrot, dew poisoning, and intensely itchy skin.  Turnout in the morning isn't comfy b/c of heat but night time is dangerous b/c of mosquito populations.  Looking forward to autumn.

Oh, I found that flax seed did give some relief to the itchy skin horses.
