We've had good luck with automotive body plastic. You'll have to get it fairly clean & dry though.

Hey all you home improvement fix it people I have a question. I have a BIG metal/galvanized (I think) water trough that is leaking around the seam at the bottom. A friend of mine gave me some kind of black sealer to put around it, but it didn't work. Anyone out there know of some kind of sealer that would help stop the leaking and maybe good methods of putting it on. It doesn't have holes in it but leaks enough that there is a continual small puddle under the trough.
