[RC] Fwd: from horsemanofftopic - Beet Pulp Pellets Toxic? - Lif Strand

This question has been forwarded from HorsemanOffTopic list. Anyone have any thoughts on toxicity of beet pulp processing?

I was told tonight by someone who works in the sugar beet factory here (they supply beet pulp and beet pulp pellets as equine feed) that there are extremely toxic chemicals used in the extraction process, some of which are toxic to horses (lime was one cited). Cargill/Nutreena packages the beet pellets and I just can't imagine them selling something that would harm horses, but thought I'd throw this out to the list and see if anyone knows anything.

Karen
