Re: [RC] Endurance horses to slaughter?/Older horses - q jessen

This is not an Endurance horse, but a pony. I had a
lady give me a pony for my 9yr & 5yr old daughters
last year. We only had her for 4 weeks when she
started having problems. We had the vet out and he
said that her liver and kidneys were failing. We
decided to put her down, but had no place to put her
after wards, so we had my daughters, myself, and my
mom say our "goodbyes", loaded her up in the trailer
with her favorite snacks, and had the vet put her
down. We then made a friend of the family that has
never owned or been involved with horses bring her to
a place in our area where dead animals of all kinds go
(animals that get hit by cars and are dead on the side
of the road). We made him promise that he would never
tell us about anything that happened when we walked
away from the horse trailer that day. We have had
horses for 22years now, and she was the only one we
have ever had to put down. We still have our
"original" horses. Even though we only had her for a
month, we all miss her, and cry when thinking about
her. The one thing that helps us, is to know that for
those 4 weeks, she was spoiled rotten!! She had my
whole family (very large family) plus my mom's daycare
kids, brushing her, feeding her, giving her treats,
affection, and all the hugs, kisses, and love any
single animal could have. I know it was hard for my
mom and myself to make the decision, but we couldn't't
let her last memory be an awful trailer ride or
something worse. In loving memory of Pumpkin Pie.
