[RC] stifle locking problem - Sundaez

Is anyone familiar with stifle locking on a horse? A friend's gelding
was just sent to a trainer and the trainer said the horse's stifle locks
up. My friend is at a loss at what this means or what to do. A vet
suggested iodine shots. (??) Is this something that will cause problems
down the road? Can a horse get over it with better condiditoning?>>

Iodine shots are called internal blistering. Causes pain and inflammation in
the stifle joint and then builds scar tissue which shortens the ligament. I
had it done to a TWH mare I had it did no good. The only other option was
surgery cutting the ligament, which would then make it impossible for her to
sleep
standing up.

I understand this problem is more common in gaited horses or those with
"stick legged" conformation. Lots of slow hill work will make them stronger but
I
have no idea how well a horse would hold up for endurance.
