RE: [RC] help with computer - Don and Pam BowenOut of lurking for this one! It's not a virus (McAfee didn't help me) and it's going like crazy right now. I got hit with the same thing and spent hours on hold with Earthlink yesterday to get it fixed. Once it gets to the point of what happened to me and the original poster it's not so easy to fix, a patch needs to be downloaded from MS, impossible when your computer shuts down a few minutes after being online. The problem is a weakness in the security system of Windows 2000, NT and XP and some pesky hackers messed things up. According to Earthlink, it's probably going to hit everyone, doesn't matter who your ISP is. Earthlink is extremely busy right now!! I've attached a link to a MS website that describes the problem, there are other links from there for more information as well as the patches. It can also be accessed from the main Microsoft page. If anyone is running any of the above systems it's probably a good idea to download/install the patch before you start having problems.
