Re: [RC] Stone bruise/what to do? - Steven Proe

Hi Laurie: You may wish to soak the affected foot in a bucket with warm to
the touch water with 2 lbs of Epsom salts dissolved in the warm water.

Soak for at least 15 minutes twice a day or more if you can, If you horse is
out in the rain use a boot to try to keep it as dry as possible. If you can
use a boot you can put in a small amount of 1/4 inch. of wet epsom salts
into the boot. Do not allow it to be higher than 3/4 of a inch inside of a
boot.

This will both toughen the hoof and dry up any injured stone bruise area.
Two weeks should be sufficient.

Take care to use rubber gloves or you will be taken for a rough neck with
very touch callused hands.

HTH
Steven

Rascal actually wants the whole summer off. He thought he'd try epm
first. Aw, but mom and vet want to work on rehabbing him now." I know , a
stone bruise!!! I fooled mom for 2/3 weeks thinking it was a pulled muscle
or something, but Charity came home and after checking me out found the
stone bruise. And mom thought she was ok, pulling my shoes with the epm
stuff in May.I do after all have tough feet/run on rocks alot. Course
there
was that rain--- for months..
Now she is asking, what to do?1) Just leave me alone in my paddock
till
it is farrier time (end of August)till the other two are due(farrier
doesn't
like to come for less than 2 horses, and it his real busy season). 2)
call
Farrier to put front shoes back on, if he can work me in?
Not ride till this clears up? Or use an easyboot?(Riding was to
consist
of only sand/dirt/rockdust arena work ,beginning at a walk for 15 min and
going up slowly from there. Not anything over stressful.
Thanks Rascal(who likes his summer vacation) and his Mom Laurie who
misses riding her silly little butthead.
