You know after reading theses i remembered a grey 'austrailian TB' I took care fo called Remington.He had that kind of growth .Had it for years. Didn't bother him at all, and he was in his 20's, it didn't cause any problem escept we had to let his bridle out in places.It ran aI think from the side of his nose up over his forehead at a slant.Probably stick up 3' or so. Well, I drove 2 hours to the clinic on Monday.  The swelling/edema  had gone down - the lump on the side of his face is about 3 times the size it was last year (about 1 inch by 3 inches by 3/4 inch), but not bothering him noticeably any more.  I had spoken with the doctor over the phone about Sorin and the possibilities.  I went up there fully expecting to leave him for surgery.
He did an ultra sound to make certain it was not a melonoma, as Sorin is a grey.  After examining him, he floored me by saying he wouldn't have the surgery done if it was his horse.  (And he is the surgeon!)  He didn't want to talk me out of surgery, but offered this as his opinion.  After verifying that even if the lump got bigger it would not be pressing on any nerves - in other words  waiting would do no harm - I opted to wait.  He said that normally the scialolith does not bother the horse, and grows slowly.  If this thing does bother him again, it won't put him in a lot of pain - it will just make him uncomfortable, so I'm willing to wait and see if it flares up again.  If it does in just a few months, or seems to be getting bigger faster, I'll opt to do the surgery then.  (Hopefully it won't happen when I'm finally ready to head to a ride!)
