I've pulled 4-horse trailer and campers over the mountain passes for 25
years or close to it with Ford pick-ups that ranged from a 6 cylinder
(that was a slow, shift gears a lot) to 351, to my favorite the 460 and
diesels.  Loads were from 1 horse to gear and people for 4 horses.  No
problem just make sure the suspension (my husband redoes all that ) and
the brakes are up to the job.  The tranny and anything else that went
out was from the miles and miles.  We do about 10 rides a year and the
miles from home are between 150 to 300 one way.
