Re: [RC] Myler Combination bits - Stephanie E CaldwellMy riding buddy uses one on her green broke Arabs. She has the three piece mouth with the hackamore, has three rings for bit attachment. When she first got it I told her she was crazy to put that on a green broke horse, looked very "gadgety" to me, and I didn't like it. But, she's ridden in it for three months now on her gelding and he does very well in it. He goes more balanced with less work from her, he respects the bit, but it doesn't seem too harsh. He's very relaxed in it. One of her big questions was riding with a Halter bridle and the hackamore noseband. Once she tried it that wasn't a big issue because the hackamore sits a little lower, but the hack portion was too large for her guy and made the bit hang funny, once she shortened the hack with wire clamps it's worked out great. From my point of view watching them, the bit has gag action, then curb action, then hackamore action. If your horse is prone to rearing, IMO this bit will make it worse. When she puts pressure on the reins, more than regular then he does have a tendency to get very light in the forehand. But, it looks like it would work for alot of horses and sure helps to get him more balanced than the snaffle did! The one that is a cross breed hackamore? If so, what do you like or dislike about it? do the horses like them?
