[RC] [Guest] Snakes on trail - Ridecamp Guest

Karen Nelson knelson@xxxxxxxxxx

The Mojave Green is definately an agressive rattler, and will chase you and
your horse---and they are quick. Don't tell me it ain't so- I have had it
happen to me. They are common in the Antelope Valley NE of Los Angeles.
Test riding a mare with Mike McCaughlin near Kings Canyon and had a Mojave
Green turning and coming UPHILL at a fast rate and we spun and boogied out
of there. I personally ride with a .38 on my hip, loaded with "shot
shells". And yes, I have used it more than once. Better a dead snake than
a hurt horse, rider or dog, IMO.Local hospital has stated that by mid-July
this year, they have treated more snake bites than last 5 years total
combined.
