RE: [RC] [RC] [Guest] bad behavior - Karen WilliamsWow, this must be an Arab/Saddlebred cross thing. I used to have one. Bought him as a 4-month old, raised and trained him myself. He drove me nuts! When going out on trails he moved like a snail. On the return trip he was a freight train. It was either keep after him to get him to move out or keep after him to get him to slow down. One day he decided he didn't want to trailer anymore. He'd raise a fuss getting in and once in he'd kick the hell out of the trailer. Nothing bad ever happened to him on a trailer ride. If I picked up a friend on the way to a trail ride, I always had to take my horse home first because he'd tear the trailer apart after the other horse was unloaded. If he had to be stalled anywhere he'd weave and pitch a fit until I finally had to tie AND hobble him, whereupon he'd shut up and go to sleep. I finally ended up giving him to a friend of mine where he spends his days out in the pasture babysitting youngsters and getting ridden occasionally. Sure hope he isn't a bad influence on them. He seems very happy there...... and I'm very happy he is there too! Similiar problems. He wasn't shown (he is 7 now), but was stalled 23/24.got 'crazy and was attacking people when he got out.Rearing,biting,charging.His traumazation, was being thrown into trailers when a hurricane would come to evacuate. Owned bya an older gentlement who was too afraid to ride him. Friend brought him up here ,turned him out for months in a big pasture. Has had him to a JL triner and other non resistance trainer ,used him in a demo on trialer loading. He will load, but then goes nuts while in trailer. He also weaves if left in stall too much. Has had a couple riders (women,) one got a bit rough and he started rearing. Owner stopped that. Has tried to be firm ,but kind. He loves to trailride, but has more tricks. . . I consider him real unpredictable and dangerous. We both decided he is neurotic. But she feels sorry for him. She'd like him to be a trail horse, but the trailer thing .So he just gets ridden around the 40 acre barn they are at or in the arena. He does dump his rider when he spooks though. Maybe it's the lines they bred too.You hate to generalize.
