Re: [RC] [Guest] iArab Pedigree-CMK-egyptian foal - Dr. Liz Faletti, DCI can't comment on the pedigree issue of the foal your mare will soon have, but I can SHOUT my encouragement to work with your vet NOW to get the right nutrition into that mare or your foal will have high possibilities of abnormalities! I worked on a mare that no one knew was pregnant. One day when I went out to adjust her, there was a beautiful pinto, walker, arab cross. And blind as a bat. This story ended very saddly with the owners having to put the baby down. I wish you well, and hope all goes well with the foal. Only when you have a healthy baby can you really start to plan its future. I am hoping some of you folks with bloodline knowledge can help me out. I bought a 1/2 arab/paint mare a week ago. She is THIN & beat up from fighting for food with other horses but I hoped to fatten her a bit & do lots of trails & maybe endurance ride her. Someday I would like to do 50s but I figured until I get weight on her & get her fit I just dont know if she is cut out for it. (please note, it is not the sellers fault the horse is thin, the mare was sold but then came back to her in poor condition) Last Friday I had the vet out to do the basic work on her....check teeth, shots - look at boo boos......& he says she is PREGNANT. Most likely 10+ months pregnant. I contacted the sellers & they told me .....oh yea, we had her out with our stallion last fall (late Aug - Nov) but we never had her vet checked & figured she was not pregnant since she is so thin. She has hinted that if I want the papers for the foal & will have to pay her the stud fee, or she might be interested in the foal. Here is the information I have gleened from the internet & their papers. My Mare IAHA # 1a 325015 her sire Haat Rhod AHR 197277 The breeder shows as Richard Skinner & possibly she is a Hearst bred horse. The Stallion is AHR #566676 & he is listed as a blue list, straight egyptian So here's my question.... Can you folks who know stuff about breeding look at her bloodlines & tell me the odds of a decent foal? Is endurance a likely avenue? I already know the foal is at risk due to the lack of nutrition, but assuming the foal is fine, is it worth $750 for the papers? What would be a fair price to sell the foal back to her? Any info or insight will be greatly appriciated. Please contact me privately if you dont think your info is of interest to the list.
