Photo is a bit confusing.When the bit is in the horse's mouth,the mouthpiece
will be down at the BOTTOM,just above the rein rings.(Thus the great direct
rein lateral cueing,and the need for a set of short bridle cheek
straps.)That sliding action is extremely progressive,and I (think) all the
various take-ups are obvious to the horse as they are engaged.It IS fairly
severe at full pull,but by then they've had fair warning,haven't they?
