I, too, grew up with a trainer that refused to allow her horses to eat with a bit in her mouth, but I don't see any way that it could affect their eating much. A properly fitted bit sits on the bars between their teeth, may not be the most comfortable thing to wear all the time, but I don't see it choking a horse unless the bit is so large that they can't close their mouth or sharp enough to damage their tongue. I'm sure I made a few enemies with this post, but for a helpful, knowledgable group, you peeps seem to sling a lot of mud at each other. JMHO. I haven't seen any mud flinging or flaming going on...
