There is a little-known breed based in the
Carolinas called the Appalachian Singlefooter. A singlefooter must be inspected
by approved persons of the registry to be registered regardless of parentage.
They must be inspected barefoot. They must gait barefooted. A horse usually
won't maintain a long toe barefooted. He doesn't need it. When shown, these
horses are preferred to be shown barefoot or wearing unaltered keg shoes, with a
certain length of toe. Very natural breed. I used to have one. She was
wonderful.

I have a TWH that moves fine with
a short toe. In fact, he is barefoot and gaits wonderfully. Three years
ago when I bought him, he had long toes and shoes ?(and feet that would chip)
he moves better now. We go on all sorts of trails with no
problems. Some people just have it stuck in their minds that Walkers
need long toes.
