[RC] [Guest] splints (revisited) - Ridecamp Moderator

Dianne e.d@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Hello everyone
I've looked through the archives and found a fair bit about splints but have a further question - how long can I expect my horse to be lame (what's the max?) - my mare has been diagnosed with splint formation (hope that's the right word) there are no visible splints but after nerve blocks, flexion tests and then xrays, the vet said that there is a rough surface (on the xray) between cannon bone and splint bone, this is causing pain and she must rest for 6 weeks - max 3 months, she's been resting for 3 weeks now but it still just as lame as she was in the beginning (on both fronts) - I'm worried, should I be, or do I need to back off and not check for lamenss for the whole 6 week - 3 month period. I thought the lameness would sort of start getting less as time advanced. Please send a copy of your email to me privately as I'm not subscribed to the list.
Thanks in advance
Dianne
