[RC] What I Learned at AHAM ride - Kari Hanes

What a great time I had in Pestosky this past weekend! I was a little nervous tackling a ride solo. Thanks to all of those who helped me out. A big thanks to Jeannie Miller and Barb who let me pace my mare behind them the first loop, I hope we weren't to much trouble. Another big thanks to Maggie and Nelson for all their advice and encouragment, I really learned a lot from you guys in the short while we talked. The trail boss (Jim Yell) was also very helpful with all the questions I pegged him with.

The biggest thing I learned was TAKE 2 OF EVERYTHING!!! Two hours into my trip it dawned on me that my daughter had borrowed my cinch the night before - stopped in Cadillac and sure 'nough, no cinch! Found a little co-op in Marcellus and bought the only one they had, got lucky, it fit. Checked out tack Saturday night and had to do some quick work on saddle, tested it out, seemed to be okay. At the end of the LD I pulled my saddle and it actually fell apart when I took it off. It was only 6 weeks old! Took it back Monday and tack store gave me full credit towards a new one. So I've ordered a new one thats all leather and wont be so Dutch next time I buy equipment (Yes, I'm Dutch). Hard lesson learned.

Hope everyone had as good a time as my little mare and I did, and we'll see all you midwest riders in Allegan. We'll be bringing two horses down, the stud was disappointed to see his riding buddy leave without him last weekend, so he's coming to Allegan with hubby to ride.
