[RC] [Guest] [RC] Rattlesnakes on the Olmstead Loop - sindy mccosker - Ridecamp Moderator

Jon Steven jon@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Every dog I have ( I have 4 now but have had as many as 8 at a time) has been hit by rattlesnakes. Most of them more than once. The first time it happened I called the vet - an old style country vet - and asked for help. He told me the following: "If that dog isn't dead in 20 minutes he will be alright."

Some dogs have a very quick reaction to the venom and just fall over dead, but most dogs -at least the larger breeds - just swell up for a few days and go back to normal. I have never treated any of mine with any medication, I just make sure they can get into a cool room and sleep so they are as comfortable as possible. The Vet was right - I have never lost a dog to a rattlesnake bite. Hope your dog comes around.
