[RC] my horse is eating dirt... - LTYearwood

hi everyone!

yesterday, i had a great ride in the South Florida sunset. it was EXTREMELY
humid outside, so i stopped a few times during the two-hour ride and let my
horse eat grass. and seeing as how much he was sweating during the ride -- even
his ears were dripping -- i also hosed his legs and chest off once (after about
the first hour).
so i thought i was doing everything right.

but when we got back to the ranch and i put vashka out to pasture with a nice
big pad of hay, vashka opted for a patch of black dirt instead.

he has being doing this on a regular basis lately.
i know this means he is missing some minerals somewhere. it's just that this
suprises me because he gets the best of food, plenty of water, lots of
turnout, and supplements that include: a probiotic, mineral powder, msn, garlic
and
electorlytes (once every morning.)
i have been reading on this board that too many electrolytes can cause
ulcers. so i stopped giving them to him more than once a day. but maybe, since
it is
so awfully humid here, i should give him more?
how do you figure this electrolyte thing out, anyway?

thanks for any help,

lori
