[RC] swimming horse - rides2far

They had a barge in a deep river. They would tie onto the horse and
tow it out into the deep water.

I only really tried to swim with one horse and I think the reason he was
going down was that instead of flattening out on the water and swimming
he was reaching for the bottom with a hind foot which sent his rear end
down. He'd touch bottom and leap. We crossed the pond like a speedboat
with the front end flying up in the air and then sinking down into the
water only to bounce right back up. I would think being in deep water
would keep them from getting that habit. I remember an article in an
*old* horse magazine I read as a teen about a horse that swam the English
Channel. His owners thought he was a great swimmer so they trained him
for it and led him behind a boat to do it.
