Re: [RC] [RC] Alternative Ride/Race After-care - Tina HicksMy routine is pretty similar to Angie's :) Right after ride, untack, clean up horse as best I can, put on picket line with hay, water, small amount of grain/carrots (which he won't eat because he just wants to be left alone to rest). Leave him alone to rest. Clean me up and consume adult beverage. Force myself to leave horse alone. Sit in chair under awning wondering if I should be doing something else for horse. Horse is dozing. Drink another beverage and force myself to leave horse alone. Piddle around camp so I won't bother the horse, putting stuff away to make packing and leaving on Sun easier. Eat anything that doesn't move while putting stuff away. By now, horse is done dozing and is eating some hay. Dose with elec, give more grain/carrots (I'll go through 20lbs of carrots in a weekend), walk horse, go to ride meeting, eat and eat and eat. Come back, groom, walk/graze again, feed small quantity of grain again, put out plenty of hay, check water, collapse into bed. Sun AM - feed pony, feed me, pack up camp, walk pony, take pony and me home :) My unpacking schedule is very similar to Angie's :) Tina For those of you who are thinking, "Oh my gosh, I have to do all that?" Here's my routine. Finish ride. Put horse back on the picket line and give him some privacy for awhile. I try to sponge him off & clean him up =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
