[RC] Stallions - David & Maggie

We were at a ride a few weeks ago where there was a stallion. I did not catch the owner's name. The stallion was beautiful, but appeared barely under control. He was always very excited except at the end of the ride. At one point, we were filling our water buckets and the owner led him past us, shouting "watch out, stallion coming through". The horse was not just frisking at the end of the lead, he was leaping and rearing and spinning on the lead. My friends (who have ridden, but only rental horses) and I felt safer diving for cover rather than just giving the stallion space.

I did not see him on trail to know what his behavior was like, but he was definately NOT the gentleman that Jim Prueter's horse is, or the noisy mostly gentleman that Denise Hayes' old horse was. I was uncomfortable having this horse in the same camp.

I have no problem sharing the trail, camp, a trailer, whatever with a well-trained stallion, but IMHO a stallion that is that barely under control has no place in a public place where it is way too easy for a bystander to be hurt.

Flame on,
