Re: [RC] treatment for Chryptorchid stud colt? - Bette Lamore

We had a colt born with same and decided to geld-- even though he was fabulous--- because itis an inherited trait.
It can be very tricky surgery and Dr. Charlie Boles performed it--- he is one of the best vets in the country (asked to be the Olympic vet twice) and we nearly lost our colt who was two at the time of surgery. I would recommend you take out surgical and mortality insurance (although I'm not sure if the surgical would cover the gelding, but it might cover any complications that may arise).
One thing you do not want to do is ignore the problem as cryptorchids usually become mean at some point due to oversecretion of testosterone-- at least that is what I've been told by three vets (hated to geld him--- he was so correct and athletic).
Say lots of prayers before the surgery and best wishes.
Bette

I recently came across a very reasonably priced, nice-looking part-arab yearling stud. Turns out he is reasonably priced
because he is chryptorchid (one testical is retained). Anyone
out there have any experiences with surgical treatment for
gelding a Chryptorchid foal? What does it cost, generally? Complications?

Thanks
