Re: [RC] Fw: Slowing down speedy horse (Easy Early to Win Later) - Heidi Smith
>It wasn't hand riding to control speed,
it was dropping all contact. Worked like a charm with her. The interesting thing
was the person that reccomended trying this with her was an ex-jockey. All I can
tell you is it sure won't work on the other horses I've ridden.
I'm sure there are many on which it doesn't work,
but I've had the same thing work on several horses. There is just a
"letting down" to it that means the opposite of "go." It isn't just the
support or the hand riding that makes it an issue in race horses--it really is a
"go" command to use pressure and a "no go" command to relax. The ex-jockey
who suggested it to you likely understood that.
