Re: [RC] Equine ulcers - gastrogard vs generic tagamet - C. Eyler

I *think* there was a recent article in www.thehorse.com which reported a study in which the generic version did not work as well as the expensive name brand.  Or maybe it was Equus.

My understanding is that it's pretty expensive to treat
ulcers in horses using Gastrogard - something like
$1000/month.  I have some friends going the Gastrogard route
now.

I've heard of other people who have used the generic form of
Tagamet(CIMETIDINE) for their horses at a much lower cost.
An example of Canadian costs below with no prescription
required is:

TAGAMET, Generic, 300mg, 180 Tablets, $23.40. TAGAMET,
Generic, 400mg,
180 Tablets, $36.04. TAGAMET, Generic, 600mg, 180 Tablets,
$40.89.

Has anyone on the list used the generic Tagamet successfully
for the treatment of ulcers in an equine?
